Flowers with Friends

After attending a gathering for friends in 2018 around flowers and fun drinks, Meg asked if I would host a private class in her home the next time I had a chance to visit Colorado. Earlier this month I made a trip down with my kiddos to visit family and see a favorite band play. I had a free morning and scheduled a class around mimosas and flowers with Meg and some of her girlfriends.

I choose a base of salal, boronia and forsythia and used a few roses and the season’s best ranunculus for focal flowers. We made arrangements, enjoyed some tasty snacks and talked all things flowers. Thank you for having me and capturing the fun! Ps - Meg is a pretty phenomenal photographer too!

Look like fun? Let’s plan a party! I love bringing people together around flowers. Classes for 4 - 12 people available - I bring the flowers and tools, you bring the friends and laughter.

Polo Club and Powder Horn transformation

These flowers did double duty for a weekend long wedding celebration here in Sheridan, WY. The entire weekend was coordinated by the talented ladies from Cloud 9 Wedding Planners from Denver, CO and they helped us pull these events off without a hitch. The talented Alissa Ferullo Photography captured the details beautifully!

We started with rustic birch containers filled with textured, variegated greenery, curly willow and flowers in shades of blue and white. The moody weather on a Thursday evening at the Big Horn Equestrian Center provided the perfect backdrop for the rehearsal dinner provided by Kiwi Catering.

After the guests moved onto their next party, we returned to collect the pieces for a refresh at the studio. They made a new appearance a few days later with bright pops of yellow added for the wedding day brunch hosted at the Powder Horn Country Club. We mixed the arrangements with a series of fun bottles using the same colors and flowers to fill up the room.

A Brightly Colored Polo Club Wedding

2018 was a year full of varied color palette - such a treat! Unlike past years with back to back repeating themes, no two weekends were alike. Jake and Tiffany choose a bright color scheme with hot pink and orange highlighted with purple for their wedding and reception at the Big Horn Equestrian Center. I used a few types of roses and spray roses along with purple clematis nestled into a variety of eucalyptus.

Flowers for a florist

When I met my husband he lived in Wyoming and I lived in Massachusetts. It was 6 weeks before Valentine’s day. Weeks went by, hours were logged on the phone and as things progressed I told him he wasn’t allowed under any circumstances to send me flowers. You see, I was going to be buried in gorgeous blooms ordered by some discerning men for their lady loves in Boston and I knew anything he might be able order online would’t make my heart flutter. He’s a smart guy and sent me a box of the most incredible hand crafted chocolates from the very best little sweet shop in Sheridan, WY - The Chocolate Tree.

But sometimes a girl just needs flowers for her own table that aren’t leftovers or the stems that didn’t make the cut for a wedding. There are days I want to try a new product, or visit with an old favorite. A few times a year I add a bunch or two of beauties to an order to enjoy - just for me.

Poppies are a family favorite and we’ve got a big wild patch of deep orange oriental poppies in our front yard. For two glorious weeks they are a riot of color and people stop while driving/walking by to admire.

I don’t often use them in design work but sometimes they are irresistible.

Denver Arranging Class

IMG_8113.JPG

I grew up in Colorado along the Front Range and attended college in Ft. Collins, CO. While I haven’t lived in Colorado in over 15 years I still regularly travel home to see family and visit a few friends. After hosting a series of flower arranging classes in Sheridan, people were clambering for a chance to play with flowers in Colorado too!

The boy joined me for a weekend at his Auntie’s house with cousins and flowers.

I planned a casual Saturday afternoon class at the super cool Rocker Spirits in Littleton, CO. The guys opened up early for us, shoveled snow and served up some stellar cocktails while we played with some super bright and fun Spring flowers.

In an attempt to break free from the typical flowers found in February I went with punchy and bright oranges and yellows. Garden Roses in yellow, orange protea and crazy fun yellow Mimosa provided texture while tulips and stock provided bulk.

As we had the space completely to ourselves, we moved the tables around and guests choose a vase for making. Cocktails and flowers are a pretty great combo.

We had sisters, college friends, childhood neighbors and the world’s coolest aunt in attendance.

I highly recommend Rocker Spirits for a fun date night out & superb seasonal cocktail. If you’re in the greater Denver area go visit! Grab a bite from their food truck to pair with your drink!

I’m hoping this can be an annual event for us to gather, catch up on life and create something beautiful together. Who’s in for 2019? Make sure you’re signed up for our email list to stay in the loop and get notifications for future classes.
